Deuxième journée au Grand Canyon. Cette fois on est en visite libre. On va donc au point le plus à l'est accessible du Parc national en voiture, environ 40 km du centre des visiteurs. Puis on avance petit à petit vers l'ouest. Il y a plusieurs arrêts organisés tout le long des falaises. A mi chemin, il y a un endroit d'où part un sentier de randonnée pour descendre jusque sur le bord du Colorado,environ 1200 m plus bas. On commence à descendre pendant environ 30 minutes. Ça permet de voir une autre perspective du canyon en y étant dedans. Le sentier est bien tracé, mais à flanc de falaise et descend très vite. De retour à la voiture on continue jusqu'au "village". Là on prend un bus (voiture interdite) pour aller jusqu'au point le plus à l'ouest, environ 30 km. Les bus s'arrêtent à plusieurs reprises et tout le long des falaises du canyon il y a un sentier qui longe. On prend le sentier pendant quelques kilomètres. La vue et grandiose et spectaculaire. On a beaucoup de mal à imaginer les distances. Jusqu'à 16 km de large, le Colorado en bas, entre 1200 et 1500 m plus bas, peut mesurer 90 mètres de large. Le canyon à une longueur de plus de 400 km. En marchant entre 2 arrêts de bus on tombe nez à nez avec un troupeau de cerfs. Il y en a plein la forêt et ils ne sont pas très sauvage si on garde la distance. Il y a aussi beaucoup d'écureuils plutôt gros. Mais difficile de faire une photos ils bougent sans arrêt. Dans la matinée il y en a un qui failli passer sous les roues de la voiture. En fin d'après-midi retour sur la route 66, 90 km plus au sud.

Second day at the Grand Canyon. This time we are free to visit. We go to the easternmost point of the National Park by car, about 40 km from the visitor center. Then we move gradually to the west. There are several stops organized along the cliffs. Halfway, there is a place where a hiking trail goes down to the edge of Colorado, about 1200 m lower. We start going down for about 30 minutes. It allows us to see another perspective of the canyon while being there. The trail is well laid out, but on the cliff side and descends very quickly. Back to the car we continue to the "village". There one takes a bus (forbidden car) to go to the westernmost point, about 30 km. The buses stop several times and all along the cliffs of the canyon there is a trail that runs along.
